Privacy policy
Last updated 28 August 2026
This policy explains what personal data this site collects, why, and what rights you have. The controller is Example Reference Media Ltd (demo placeholder), 1 Example Street, London EC1A 1AA (demo placeholder). Contact for privacy matters: privacy@example.com.
This document is a working draft prepared alongside the site build. Before publication it should be reviewed by a qualified data protection practitioner against the actual technical implementation, particularly the analytics and advertising configuration.
Which laws apply
The site is read in three jurisdictions with different regimes. We apply the strictest applicable standard rather than the minimum.
| Region | Regime | Supervisory authority |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 | Information Commissioner's Office |
| European Economic Area | EU GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 | Relevant national authority |
| Australia | Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles | Office of the Australian Information Commissioner |
| New Zealand | Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles | Office of the Privacy Commissioner |
What we collect
| Data | Purpose | Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Server log data: IP address, user agent, page requested, timestamp | Security, abuse prevention, and delivering the site | Legitimate interests |
| Google Analytics 4 data (property G-GR1DSJK6QH) | Understanding which pages are read | Consent |
| Advertising data | Not collected. No advertising runs on this site at present | Not applicable |
| Email correspondence you send us | Replying to you; handling corrections | Legitimate interests |
We do not ask for or want financial account details, API keys, identity documents or trading records. Please do not send them.
Consent and Consent Mode
Analytics and advertising cookies are set only after you consent through the cookie banner. Until you consent, non-essential storage is not used and any Google tags operate in a denied consent state with no advertising or analytics storage. You can change or withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before withdrawal. Details of each cookie are on the cookie policy page.
Sharing and international transfers
We share data with our hosting provider and, where you have consented, with Google as the provider of Google Analytics. No advertising networks receive data, because no advertising runs on this site. Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, transfers rely on adequacy decisions or on standard contractual clauses with supplementary measures as required. The current list of providers is maintained on the cookie policy page.
We do not sell personal data.
Retention
- Server logs: retained for a limited period for security purposes, then deleted.
- Analytics data: retained for the period configured in the analytics product, subject to consent.
- Email correspondence: retained while needed to handle the matter and any follow-up.
Your rights
Under UK and EU GDPR you may request access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also withdraw consent at any time.
Under the Australian Privacy Principles and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to and correction of personal information we hold about you.
To exercise any right, contact privacy@example.com. We will respond within the statutory period — one month under UK and EU GDPR, and the applicable period under Australian and New Zealand law.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handled your data you may complain to your supervisory authority: the ICO in the UK, the OAIC in Australia, or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand. We would prefer you contact us first so we can try to resolve it.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
