AI trading platforms: verified prices, quotas and limits
Retail AI and algorithmic trading tools in this comparison cost between USD 0 and USD 199.95 per month. TradingView starts free and reaches USD 199.95 on annual billing; TrendSpider runs USD 52.38 to 128.40 at promotional rates; Trade Ideas is USD 89 or 178 per month; Cryptohopper runs USD 0 to 129; Pionex charges no bot subscription but takes 0.050% per spot trade. Prices below were read from vendor pages in August 2026, and the subscription is never the full cost.

- These products do not sell the same thing. Charting capacity, scanning and signals, crypto bot management, and research infrastructure are four different jobs. Comparing monthly prices across them is meaningless.
- Free entry exists and is real: TradingView and Cryptohopper both list USD 0, QuantConnect has a free research tier, Pionex has no bot subscription.
- The subscription is not the cost. Broker commissions, exchange data, spreads, slippage, premium datasets and tax sit outside it. QuantConnect premium datasets alone were reported at USD 5 to over 350 per month.
- No performance ranking appears on this page because no audited like-for-like live return series exists for any of these vendors.
- Regional availability is the least-documented field. Several vendor pages state no country list at all; verify eligibility in account-opening terms.
First decide the job, not the brand
The single most common purchasing error in this category is comparing a charting subscription with a crypto bot subscription on price. They solve unrelated problems. Before looking at any price, settle four questions: which asset class, how much control you need, whether you will write code, and where custody sits.
Prices as displayed by vendors
All figures are US dollars, read from the vendors' own pricing pages in August 2026 unless otherwise noted. Where a page did not state a publication or update date, that is recorded — it means freshness cannot be independently audited, and promotional pricing in this category changes frequently.
| Platform | Displayed price (USD) | Job it does | Freshness |
|---|---|---|---|
| TradingView | Free 0; Essential 12.95/mo; Plus 29.95; Premium 59.95; Ultimate 199.95 (annual billing) | Charting, alerts, community scripts | No date on page |

| Trade Ideas | Basic 89/mo or 1,068/yr; Premium 178/mo or 2,136/yr | US-equity scanning and AI signals | No date on page |

Quotas and limits, which matter more than price
Two subscriptions at the same price can differ by an order of magnitude in what they let you run. Alert counts, bot counts, backtest depth, position limits and polling intervals are the fields that actually determine whether a plan supports your intended workflow.
| Platform | Quotas by tier, lowest to highest |
|---|---|
| TradingView | Charts per tab 2 / 4 / 8 / 16; indicators per chart 5 / 10 / 25 / 50; price alerts 20 / 100 / 400 / 1,000; technical alerts 20 / 100 / 400 / 1,000; historical bars 10K / 10K / 20K / 40K |
| TrendSpider | Workspaces 5 / 10 / 15 / 20; alerts 10 / 50 / 100 / 400 (with 30 / 90 / 180 / 365-day expiry); trading bots 5 / 10 / 50 / 100; backtest depth 2K / 10K / 20K / 30K candles |
| Trade Ideas | Charts 10 (Basic) / 20 (Premium); Premium adds AI signals and backtesting |
| Cryptohopper | Positions 80 / 80 / 200 / 500; coins 15 / 15 / 50 / 75; polling interval 10 / 10 / 5 / 2 minutes; portfolio or manual bots 10 / 25 / 65 on paid tiers |
| 3Commas | Active DCA / signal / grid bots 5·2·2 (Starter), 20·20·10 (Pro), 1,000·1,000·1,000 (Expert); connected accounts 1 / 5 / 25 |
| Pionex | Daily withdrawal by KYC level: 0 USDT (unverified), 20,000 USDT (level 1), 1,000,000 USDT (level 2) |
| QuantConnect | Researcher: up to 2 backtest nodes, 2 live nodes, 10M orders per backtest, 100KB logs per backtest. Team: up to 10 members and nodes, 10GB object store. Trading Firm: unlimited members, rentable nodes, 5MB logs per backtest |
| Interactive Brokers API | Web API, FIX and TWS API; stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds and funds across a stated 170 markets in 40 countries |
Two quota fields deserve particular attention. Backtest depth caps how much history a strategy can be tested against — 2,000 candles is a few months of hourly data, which is not enough to observe more than one market regime. Polling interval on crypto tiers determines how stale the bot's view of the market is; a ten-minute interval is a materially different product from a two-minute one, regardless of the marketing language attached to either.
What the subscription price leaves out
Comparing subscription prices alone systematically understates the cost of every workflow on this page. The excluded items are not marginal.
| Cost | Documented example | Who it hits |
|---|---|---|
| Exchange and market data | TrendSpider: real-time futures data USD 7.50/mo or 90/yr; professional US equity (NASDAQ) data USD 29/mo. TradingView notes extra real-time exchange data may cost more | Anyone trading intraday or on live data |
| Premium datasets | QuantConnect premium datasets reported at USD 5 to 350+ per month | Code-first researchers using alternative data |
| Feature add-ons | TrendSpider: upgraded backtest depth USD 39/mo; AI assistant tiers USD 0 (25 messages) to 349 (1,000 messages) | Users who hit a quota ceiling mid-project |
| Broker commissions | Passed through on QuantConnect: Interactive Brokers approximately USD 0.005 per share; Alpaca commission-free on US equities | Every live strategy |
| Trading fees on "free" bots | Pionex spot maker and taker 0.050% each side; futures 0.020% and 0.050% | Users of exchange-native bots, per trade |
| Marketplace and signal fees | Cryptohopper marketplace strategies reported at USD 10 to 50 per month each, stacking on the subscription | Buyers of third-party strategies |
| Spread, slippage and market impact | Not published by any vendor; determined by instrument, size and venue | Every strategy, and highest for high-turnover ones |
| Tax and currency conversion | Jurisdiction-specific; not confirmed with primary sources in our research pass | Every user; verify with ATO, Inland Revenue NZ or HMRC |
A high-turnover strategy on a 0.050% per-side fee pays 0.10% per round trip before spread. For a strategy trading its capital once a day, that is a demanding hurdle before any subscription is counted — and it is the reason so many gross edges vanish in live trading.
Head-to-head comparisons
TradingView vs TrendSpider
TradingView wins on breadth of charting ecosystem, community scripts and a much lower entry price — USD 0 or 12.95 per month against TrendSpider's 52.38 after a paid trial. TrendSpider wins on packaged no-code automation: 5 to 100 trading bots by tier, alert counts to 400, backtest depth to 30,000 candles, and roughly 30 broker integrations through SignalStack with a small allowance of free automated trades per month. Choose TradingView if the job is analysis and alerting; TrendSpider if the job is building and testing rule sets without writing code. Neither supplies audited profitability.
Trade Ideas vs TradingView
Trade Ideas is a focused real-time US-equity scanner whose Premium tier adds AI-generated setups with defined risk parameters. It is the most expensive tool in the set at USD 178 per month, and its verified market scope is narrow — US equities. TradingView covers far more instruments at a fraction of the price but does not generate equivalent AI setups. If you do not trade US equities intraday, the comparison resolves quickly.
Cryptohopper vs 3Commas
Cryptohopper publishes clearer plan prices with explicit position, coin and interval limits, and its pricing page carried a modification date. 3Commas offers dramatically higher top-tier bot limits — up to 1,000 active DCA, signal and grid bots on Expert against Cryptohopper's 65 — but its page displayed monthly and annual figures without clearly separating them, and it has a documented credential-security incident in which an intrusion was believed to have occurred over an October to November period, with the company stating its FAQ did not disclose the full extent while the investigation continued. That history does not disqualify the product; it does mean trade-only API keys, IP allowlists and exchange-side limits are mandatory rather than advisable. See API-key security.
Pionex vs third-party crypto bots
Pionex embeds its bots inside the exchange, removing one external API layer and therefore one class of credential risk. The trade is concentration: custody, execution, market data and bot logic all sit with a single venue, and the available bot universe is tied to that venue. Third-party products span exchanges but add integration and credential risk. There is no dominant answer — only a choice about which risk you would rather hold.
QuantConnect vs no-code tools
QuantConnect provides transparent code, versioned data, reproducible tests and clean separation between research and broker execution, on the open-source LEAN engine in Python and C#, with a stated 300,000 users and 20-plus supported brokers. No-code tools get you running in an afternoon. The trade-off is convenience against inspectability, and it matters most at the moment something goes wrong: with code you can determine why, and with a no-code builder you often cannot. A natural-language layer such as Capitalise.ai sits in between — free for eligible Interactive Brokers users, but generated rules still need manual inspection because natural language hides execution logic and encourages false confidence.
The comparison matrix
| Platform | Entry price | Code required | Free tier | Custody | Best-fit job |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TradingView | USD 0 | Optional (Pine Script v6) | Yes | External broker | Charts, alerts, community scripts |
| TrendSpider | Trial 19, then 52.38 | No | No (paid trial) | External broker via integrations | No-code scanning and strategy testing |
| Trade Ideas | USD 89 | No | No | External broker | US-equity real-time scanning and AI signals |
| Cryptohopper | USD 0 | No | Yes | Connected exchange | Multi-exchange crypto bots |
| 3Commas | USD 15 (label ambiguous) | No | Not established | Connected exchange | High-volume crypto bot management |
| Pionex | No subscription | No | n/a | Pionex exchange | Exchange-native grid and DCA |
| QuantConnect | USD 0 research; ~60 live | Yes (Python, C#) | Yes | External regulated broker | Reproducible multi-asset research and execution |
| IBKR API | Not separately priced | Yes | n/a | Regulated broker | Execution and account data layer |
| Capitalise.ai | Free for eligible IBKR users | No (natural language) | Yes, conditional | IBKR | No-code automation over broker execution |
Where sources disagree
Publishing the disagreement is more useful than resolving it silently. Three conflicts affect the figures above.
- Trade Ideas pricing. The vendor pricing page gives Basic at USD 89 per month or 1,068 per year and Premium at 178 or 2,136. One of our research passes reported USD 118 and 228 per month with a USD 1,999 annual Premium. We publish the vendor-page figures and flag the discrepancy; promotional cycles are the most likely explanation, and neither set should be treated as durable.
- TrendSpider promotional versus list pricing. Promotional annual-equivalent rates run USD 52.38 to 128.40. List prices are materially higher — Advanced has been listed at approximately USD 321 per month, Standard at 82. Third-party review sites quote yet further ranges. The vendor page is authoritative at the moment of reading and nowhere else.
- 3Commas billing labels. The page displayed pairs such as "15 / 20" without clearly separating monthly from annual-billing rates, so the lower figure most likely reflects annual commitment. We reproduce both numbers rather than picking one.
Two further gaps are worth stating plainly: QuantConnect's exact paid tier prices were not present on the pages extracted, and Composer's current retail pricing was not captured at all. Both are marked as missing rather than estimated.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Confirm the legal entity name and its regulatory status, and check it against the ASIC, FMA or FCA register as applicable.
- Confirm your country, account entity type and asset class are supported — in the account-opening terms, not the marketing page.
- Obtain the full cost schedule: subscription, exchange data, premium datasets, broker commissions, spreads and tax treatment.
- Check API permission scopes. Withdrawal rights should be off; IP allowlisting and subaccounts on.
- Verify that live and backtested performance are clearly separated in anything the vendor shows you.
- Ask how point-in-time data and corporate actions are handled. A vendor that cannot answer this cannot support honest backtesting.
- Confirm the kill switch works without the AI provider being reachable.
- Confirm logs are exportable in enough detail to reconstruct a decision after the fact.
- Read cancellation, refund, data-ownership and strategy-IP terms before subscribing.
- Use the free tier or paper trading first. If a vendor offers neither, that is information about the vendor.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an AI trading platform cost?
USD 0 to 199.95 per month in this set. TradingView Essential is 12.95 on annual billing, TrendSpider Standard 52.38 promotional, Trade Ideas Premium 178 per month or 2,136 per year. Subscription excludes broker commissions, exchange data, spreads, slippage and tax.
Which is cheapest?
Cryptohopper Pioneer and TradingView's free tier both list USD 0, QuantConnect has a free research tier, and Pionex charges no bot subscription — but takes 0.050% per side on spot trades.
Which platform performs best?
Unanswerable from evidence: no audited, cost-adjusted, like-for-like live return series exists for these vendors. This page contains no performance ranking for that reason.
Which is best for beginners?
A free charting tier plus paper trading is the lowest-risk start. Beyond that, the right tool follows from asset class, control needed, coding ability and custody preference — not from a "best for beginners" label.
TradingView or TrendSpider?
TradingView for breadth and price; TrendSpider for packaged no-code bots, alerts and backtest depth. Different jobs.
Cryptohopper or 3Commas?
Cryptohopper for clearer published limits and pricing; 3Commas for far higher top-tier bot counts, with stricter credential hygiene warranted given its documented security incident.
Is Pionex safer than a third-party bot?
It removes one API layer and adds exchange concentration. You are choosing which risk to hold, not eliminating risk.
Best platform for writing my own strategy?
QuantConnect with a broker API — LEAN in Python or C#, published node and order quotas, clean research-to-execution separation. Interactive Brokers supplies Web API, FIX and TWS API across a stated 170 markets in 40 countries.
Are the free tiers actually usable?
Yes, for learning, charting, research and paper trading. They do not remove trading fees, spreads, exchange data charges or tax on live activity.
Do these platforms serve Australia, New Zealand and the UK?
Not consistently documented. Several vendor pages publish no country list, and age requirements, professional-client eligibility and compensation-scheme coverage were absent across the compared set. Verify in account-opening terms.
How long should I paper trade before going live?
No universal duration was found. It should cover enough trades and enough different market conditions to evaluate turnover, drawdown, costs, execution failures and drift. A fixed number of days without sufficient observations tells you nothing.
Should I buy marketplace strategies or signals?
Treat them as unverifiable by default. A recurring criticism of strategy marketplaces is that most signals are sold by people whose track record cannot be verified, and marketplace fees stack on top of the subscription at roughly USD 10 to 50 per strategy per month.
